Man o' War, considered by many to be America's all-time greatest racehorse, died at age 30 in 1947. He was the first known American horse to be embalmed, according to reports, and he was laid to rest in his paddock at Faraway Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. His funeral was broadcast on the radio, a bugler (in owner Samuel D. Riddle silks) played taps, and many attended the services.
Man o' War's body was later exhumed and moved to the nearby Kentucky Horse Park.
